Deptford dance and music college gives Led Zeppelin member honorary fellowship

LED Zeppelin member John Paul Jones will receive an honorary fellowship from Deptford's Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

The former Blackheath schoolboy was best known as the bassist, mandolinist and keyboardist for the iconic English rock band and will receive the accolade at the prestigious performing arts college in Creekside today.

Jones, who is unusual for a rock musician in also having a love of a wide range of music, including classical and jazz, will join the ranks of other acclaimed artists who have received the honour, including Oscar nominated composer John Powell and Classical FM Managing Director Darren Henley.

Matthew Bourne, acclaimed choreographer and Trinity Laban alumnus, will also receive a companion award tomorrow, which is the highest recognition given by the college, the UK’s only music and contemporary dance conservatoire.
