She has been seen on the arm of international superstar Ed Sheeran, but now Cherry Seaborn is hoping to turn Wimbledon Hockey Club into The A Team.

The striker, who won the British University Championship in 2012 and 2013 with Durham University, and won bronze in the 2012 European U21 Championship with England, moved to New York for work.

While there Seaborn, 33, played for Dukes University Blue Devils, scoring six goals in 23 appearances - but she hit the gossip columns at the end of last year when she was spotted with old Suffolk school friend Sheeran at parties in Las Vegas and at a baseball game in Queens, NY.

Last year, Sheeran was estimated by Forbes to be the 27th highest earning celebrity in the world, having banked $57m the previous year.

But now Seaborn has returned to home shores and has joined Wimbledon in their quest to win promotion out the WHL Conference East.

Ladies coach Ben Marsden said: "Cherry played largely in America as a midfielder cum striker, and she has brought a wealth of talent to that area of our team.

“A combination of those two players [including fellow new comer Lou Gordon], and having a strong start to the season in terms of fitness, mean we’re in a good place take on the second half of the season.”
