Following a whirlwind week at South by Southwest Festival, and a tour in Europe supporting American singer Chuck Ragan, folk-inspired Greenwich band Skinny Lister are now unveiling their second album, ‘Down on Deptford Broadway’.

Known for their love of performing, the high energy London-based six-piece has evolved into a celebrated live fixture as they blend lively folk music and rebellious punk rock. Their original style mixes jigs, reels and sea shanties, and has seen them likened to the English Pogues.

Since the band’s formation in 2009, the quirky group has become renowned for holding gigs in Land Rovers, touring in a narrow boat and jigging on restaurant tables, in hotel elevators and in record label car parks.

Fronted by the charismatic and flirtatious vocalist, Lorna Thomas, the band evolved after meeting through folk clubs in Greenwich.

She said: "My brother Max was down in that neck of the woods and he started playing traditional music with Dan in pubs, and then they started using some of Dan’s melodies and lyrics.

"Then I decided that I wanted to get into festivals for free with them and drink as much beer as I could.

“I taught myself how to sing and dance and joined in. I’m just a massive show off, I never consider myself a musician.”

The album which is due for release on the April 20, takes its name from the time the band spent in Deptford.

Thomas said: “It all happened on Deptford Broadway basically, that’s where we sort of hung out. It’s got history.

"I love the nitty gritty of Deptford. You’ve got the park, all the amazing buildings steeped in history and it’s a cool place to be.”

Filled with smart songwriting, catchy choruses and high energy, the album remains true to Skinny Lister's famous style.

Compiled of 12 brand new tracks, the folk and punk rock group’s latest album channels the riotous spirit of their beer swilling, foot stomping and crowd chanting live shows.

Thomas described what the audience can expect from the album.

She said: "They can expect high energy although its got some nice ballads in there as well. We feel that this album really captures the energy that we display in a live show."

The track ‘This is War’ was inspired, Thomas said, by “a love affair with London”.

“It’s about London and all your dreams and everything that goes on there and the excitement of it.”

Following the release of their second album, Skinny Lister are set to embark on their first headline tour across the UK, and it’s clear the band are more than excited.

Thomas said: “I'm really looking forward to catching up with fans that have been with us since the beginning, and new ones, and just having a good party with people. I mean basically they're your mates aren't they?

"We're looking forward to just having a good old party and sharing the album with people."

Skinny Lister’s Down on Deptford Broadway is out Monday (April 20).
