Rock band You Me at Six are riding the crest of a wave after scoring their first number one album last year and are now heading to Greenwich.

The five-piece, who formed in 2004, are touring as co-headliners with fellow pop-punkers All Time Low and stop off at Greenwich’s O2 arena on February 14.

Drummer Dan Flint told News Shopper: “Who wouldn't be looking forward to the O2?”

“It’s the most famous venue in London.

"My mum and my sister went to see Queen there and my girlfriend saw Paolo Nutini.

“To think we're among those kind of names is amazing.”

The collaboration between You Me at Six and All Time Low came about by chance after the bands met on the legendary Warped tour and sometimes shared tour buses.

Dan said: “I feel like America always gets bands like Paramore and Fall Out Boy, who went on tour together and I feel the UK misses out a little bit

“So we thought we'd bring a little package for the fans in the UK.”

In preparation for a series of arena show, the bands kick off at the tiny 300-capacity venue The Boileroom in Guildford.

It was a last-minute booking because the boys grew up close to the venue.

Unsurprisingly, tickets sold out in minutes.

Dan said: “Without local venues bands wouldn't be able to come up."

“It'll let us get back into the swing of things,” he said, “Plus our friends and family will be there.”

It's clear the bandmates are enjoying their success, something they deserve after four well-received albums and several tours.

Their first album, Take Off Your Colours (2008), charted at number 25 in the UK charts. Their second, Hold Me Down (2010), went in at number five and their third, Sinners Never Sleep (2011), went in at number three.

It was only with their fourth, Cavalier Youth, which was released last year, that they achieved their first number one album.

“It was the most amazing feeling,” Dan said. “Something we will cherish forever.”

“It summed up how our career has been - on the rise,

“It has been a slow burner, which we like as it gives us longevity.

“It's about working for a long time and doing what you love doing.”

While it is nice, the drummer insisted that chart success wasn’t that important.

He said: “It's just something nice to have, something to put on the wall.”

“Something to tell the grandkids - that we have four gold albums...

“They'll probably tell us to shut up."

In the face of success, many bands grow apart but Dan said that’s not the case with You Me at Six.

He said: “When we do things we tend to do them together.

"We always go out, sometimes to the cinema.”

"We're genuinely really good friends."
