The former Eltham home of singer Kate Bush, named after her biggest hit and the novel that inspired it, has gone on the market for around £3m.

Bush, who was born in Welling and also spent time in Brockley, is believed to have lived in the Court Road six-bedroom house - named Wuthering Heights after her breakthrough song - from 1985 to 2003.

There are even reports that one of her music videos was filmed in a bedroom which she used as her dance studio.

The time she spent there coincided with the release of her best known album Hounds of Love - recorded at her family home - and took in follow-up records The Sensual World and The Red Shoes.

After she left, the house was bought by Jackie O'Reilly and her husband, who made a number of changes to the property, including a wrought-iron Wuthering Heights sign to reflect the home's name in the title deeds.

Ms O'Reilly said: "I grew up in Eltham, and we always knew it as Kate Bush’s house, and caught odd glimpses of her.

"But she clearly valued her privacy. The house is surrounded by large trees, to keep out prying eyes."

The sale comes at a time when Bush has returned to the stage for the first time in 35 years, garnering ecstatic reviews for a series of gigs at the Hammersmith Apollo - a far cry from her first performances at the Rose of Lee pub, later renamed Dirty South.

Wuthering Heights, which backs on to the Royal Blackheath golf course and has around one acre of grounds, is on sale through the Lee branch of Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward.
