A MAJOR label singer-songwriter from Catford has taken his creative talents into film.

Jason Bavanandan, who was previously signed to Warner Records and EMI Publishing and is now with Sony, has decided to create a movie based in south London, called Whiplash Dreams.

He has teamed up with Clearhead Media to produce the film and is looking to raise money and awareness through Kickstarter.

Jason said the film tells the story of a couple who move to south east London to fix their dissolving relationship.

He said: “It's a tale of intrigue and suspense, with an existentialist message about progress and unconscious needs.”

South east London was an obvious choice, he said.

“Call me biased, but this is my home and it's also the greatest location on earth. The bedrock of my story and music. I want to deliver a music-film-first which captures some of its grit and majesty.”

Jason’s passionate and fierce creativity means that he has set a personal challenge of aiming to premiere the film early next year after first showing it off at Cannes and Sundance Festivals.

As a musician first, Jason said he wants to take a new approach.

He said: “The real defining aspect of the work is that it will be voiced entirely by a soundtrack of 12 original songs.

“Composed and recorded by myself, each one relates a monthly episode in the final year of this couple's relationship.

“The combined experience of Film and Music used uniquely in this way will produce the first ever cinematically-released album.

“The soundtrack, also entitled Whiplash Dreams, will be commercially available as a standalone album upon release of the film.”

He added: “It's very ambitious and challenging but with any luck and no shortage of hard work, you'll be seeing our patch of the world lit-up in a cinema near you, very soon.”
