They're calling "last orders please" at one of London's jazz landmarks.

Catford's Rutland Arms in Perry Hill is to close following its final gig on Sunday lunchtime December 3.

It's been home for nearly 15 years to music fans from across London and the south east.

The pub's owner, Christine Baker, is retiring and has sold the spacious Victorian pub to a developer.

Together with her late husband, Trevor, and her son, David, Christine established The Rutland as a much-loved family business. She made it a haven of friendly and civilised camaraderie as well as a four-times-a-week home to fans of some of the country's leading jazz and blues musicians.

I'll be hosting the fond farewell event with my trio and a very special star guest. It's quite touching in a way, as I was involved in the very first gigs there in 1992.

It promises to be a warm, spirited and packed occasion, tinged with some sadness. But, we need to be positive. Thousands of people have enjoyed some outstanding musicianship there over many years - and the musicians have had a good time, too.

No mistakes have been made with our star guest for the event. It's award-winning Jazz Clarinettist of the Year, Julian Marc Stringle, also a dab hand on tenor sax and with vocals.

He's guaranteed to pull them in from miles around.
