Funky DJ with 40 years' experience entertaining the world invites over 30s to his NYE bash
From DJing in a dead volcano illuminated by laser lights, to performing in Russia’s most exclusive nightclub, Steve Funktion’s 40-year career has been one amazing party.
The music-loving globe trotter from New Eltham has dedicated much of his life to getting people on the dance floor and ensuring they have obscene amounts of fun.
Very passionate about organising discos for people over 30-years-old, Steve now runs buzzing Soul Funky events - including weekend-long parties - from grand, secluded venues around Chislehurst and Bickley.
He told Vibe: “We give people something they can’t get in the high street.
“I choose prestigious venues so everyone feels like they are somewhere a bit more special.
“There are never any fights, the vibes are absolutely fantastic and I always love to see people being entertained.
“The music is what links everyone together.”
Steve’s next big event will be his New Year’s Eve bash, Swankey-Do II, at Bickley Manor on December 31.
Specifically for over 30s, the party will be held between 8pm and 2am and is set to feature six different DJs playing a mixture of soul music and current hits.
And a special Christmas event is planned for The Beaverwood Club in Chislehurst on December 22.
Steve added: “I want everyone to feel comfortable with likeminded people.
“I love these parties – everyone goes on Facebook to see the pictures.
“They start tagging each other and before you know it they’re one big happy family.”
Looking to the future, Steve’s dream is to hire out a centre like Butlins and hold his biggest weekend-long party yet.
And with all of his amazing years of experience to draw from, it seems Steve will have no trouble achieving his ambitious goal.
He continued: “I will have been Djing for 40 years this year – I’ve been through all the genres from trance, soul and funk.
“In the past I’ve done six four-day events in a dead volcano in Gran Canaria for 15,000 people, with laser lights everywhere – that was about eight years ago.
“I’ve performed at the most expensive nightclub in Russia, Decadence, and for a Kiss FM party.
“And once I was asked to DJ for 6,500 people in Mumbai but I was doing New Year’s Eve at Twighlights in Sydenham and I didn’t want to let the guy down.
“I couldn’t find anyone to replace me - that was a great disappointment.”
Tickets to Steve’s New Year’s Eve bash are £40, which includes a hot meal from Bickley Manor’s buffet.
