Gym owner in Forest Hill gives Vibe readers a top tip to stay in shape
As the bikinis get stuffed into storage for another year, it can be difficult to maintain that fabulous summer figure.
But with National Fitness Day fast approaching, énergie fitness club in Forest Hill is doing its bit to help us stay in shape.
To celebrate the annual event on September 28, all 97 branches of the chain are holding a special Zumba class on the day.
And, to help Vibe readers tone up, club owner Andrew Grossett has sent in a top tip for autumn.
Squats
When you talk about toning and strengthening your legs, the best exercises are usually the simplest ones.
As you complete a squat, you recruit all of the muscles in your leg and bottom area - it can really give your entire lower half a workout in one go.
To complete this exercise, I want you to stand up straight with your feet hip-width apart, making sure your toes are pointing forward.
Then I want you to slowly descend towards the floor trying to keep your weight on the ball of your foot, keeping your knee behind your toes as you move into a seated position.
Keeping your back straight, descend to the point where your thigh bone is parallel to the floor and then stand up again.
Simply repeat this motion and challenge yourself to see how many you can do, with a mind to beat your last score.
If you are finding it difficult keeping your knees behind your toes, hold your arms out in front of you to maintain balance.
