There is a wonderful culinary secret being kept in Bromley – and I’m about to let you all in on it.

You have probably wandered past The Lord Holmesdale pub many a time on the way to Tesco without even realising it serves food.

But for the last few weeks a new, passionate chef has been cooking up a delicious storm in the kitchen and created a mouth-watering menu of gorgeous – and reasonably priced – dishes.

Michael Turner, who has a long and tasty history of running successful gastro pubs, is hoping to transform the Bromley boozer into a buzzing lunch and dinner spot for yummy mummies and local residents.

My colleague and I went along to taste some of Michael’s food this week.

To start with I went for the Garlic Mushrooms (£3.95), chestnut mushrooms sautéed in garlic butter and cream and served on toast.

And creamy it certainly was.

The melt-in-your-mouth, luxurious sauce was an absolute delight against the slightly crisp brown toast.

Just thinking back to it makes my stomach rumble.

My companion chose the very colourful Crayfish Tail Cocktail (£4.95), crayfish tails on a bed of crispy mixed leaves topped with seafood sauce and paprika.

Instantly green with envy when I saw the beautiful plate of food arrive, I cursed my shellfish allergy and wished I could try just one bite.

The list of main courses includes good old British favourites like fish and chips and bangers and mash.

But I decided to go Mediterranean and try the Chicken, Bacon and Chorizo Salad (£6.25) with warm chicken breast and Spanish chorizo tossed in mixed leaves with sun blushed tomatoes and basil pesto – yum.

I adore these sweet tomatoes and this is the perfect option if you’re after something a little lighter.

Picking to stay true to her roots, my friend went for the hugely impressive Steak and Kidney Pudding (£6.95) with creamy mash and seasonal veg – although you can opt for handmade chips.

This generous portion of glorious comfort food went down an absolute treat and left my full companion feeling more than satisfied.

We just could not understand why the place was rather empty.

With scrummy desserts also available, The Lord Holmesdale has really become the perfect lunch spot.

And now the cat is out of the bag, go and give it a try.
