DIDN'T manage to net a ticket to the eye-popping spectacle of Olympic beach volleyball? Never mind - you can try it out yourself in Greenwich this summer.

Social leagues aimed at people who have finished work are being held at The Beach - a new facility near The O2 at Greenwich peninsula - through the summer months.

The volleyball leagues will be run by Go Mammoth which already runs a range of sporting events across the capital.

Approved in January, the 4,999 capacity venue is set to feature a fully licensed bar, indoor corporate space for hire, and plenty of golden sand.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "I'm delighted that after a thousand years, London will soon have the golden shores to rival even the best of the Caribbean."
