You may not stand a chance of winning an Olympic medal, but one entrepreneurial couple is helping people strike another kind of gold during the Games.

Camping enthusiast Angela Bevan and her fiancé Colin Doran have set up London Guest, a scheme through which homeowners can charge visitors to pitch a tent in their garden or sleep in their spare room.

And when the Olympics hits Greenwich, normal renting rates will double – leaving locals to pole vault their way to a small fortune.

Angela told Vibe: “With the recession and the Olympics there’s so much potential to earn a bit of extra money.

“People can charge up to £30 a night to rent a spare room, and charge per person for camping with prices normally starting at about £5 per person.

“But it can be anywhere between £5 and £20 depending on what your garden is like – people choose their prices.

“And all the prices double over the Olympics.”

London Guest ensures its client’s spare rooms or gardens are advertised on as many channels as possible including Gumtree.com and Google, maximising the chances of potential lodgers spotting them.

People renting out their gardens must also provide basic bathroom facilities for their camping guests.

Angela, from Beckenham, charges 12 per cent commission from London Guest users.

She added: “People should use us over renting out their room themselves because we handle all bookings and payments via our secure encrypted system and forward the payment to the host by cheque or Paypal 24 hours after the guest checks in – taking all the risk and hassle out of taking payments in cash, for example.”

Angela, 26, and Colin, 30, have thrown themselves into developing the business, and hope it flourishes during this busy time for the borough.

“The hard work is paying off now.” She added.

“You can just tell it’s going to get better and better.

"We're already on page one of Google for the search term 'Spare Rooms London', thanks to the expertise of Matt Fisher, our SEO Consultant/Web Designer at Button Digital.

“Some people might find it a bit funny but through us you can talk to the lodgers beforehand and get to know them.

“This opportunity isn’t going to come around again, people should take advantage of it.”
