Shoppers step back in time at launch of Bromley North heritage trail
1:15pm Sunday 1st April 2012 in Freetime latest news By Robert Fisk
BUSTLES, bows and bonnets were in abundance at the launch of a heritage trail to showcase historical landmarks.
Guides dressed in Victorian attire, along with volunteers from Bromley Civic Society, showed people around the 25 stop trail in Bromley North yesterday (March 31).
The focus on the town’s past is part of Bromley Council’s regeneration plan to attract more people to the area.
Portfolio holder for renewal and recreation Councillor Peter Morgan said: “We have a rich history in the borough, with dozens of historical and literary landmarks in Bromley town centre alone.
“Visiting the Bromley North heritage trail presents a fantastic opportunity to discover times gone by while you shop."
The trail has been brought about by Bromley Council after it consulted with members of the Bromley Civic Society (BCS).
BCS chairman Tony Banfield said: “We hope people will come along and really see the town centre from a different perspective.
“It’s a really interesting place and has a history going back to medieval times.”
Money for the heritage trail came from the Mayor of London’s outer London fund, which aims to help town centres by funding regeneration schemes.
