BE-BOP-A-LULA Bromley’s Churchill Theatre’s very own Dreamboats and Petticoats has hit the West End for a limited season at the Savoy Theatre.

The good news is if you don’t get to see the West End production it’s making its way back to the Churchill in November.

Dreamboats and Petticoats is a non-stop high energy show that pays tribute to the sounds of the 50s and 60s with tributes to Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Cliff Richard, and Chubby Checker.

If this was your era, you will love it and the memories will come flooding back.

But even if you are too young to remember that golden time, you will love it just the same.

The plot is a simple boy meets girl, boy falls for another girl, but ends up with the original girl in the end.

It features a strong cast of fine young talent led by last year’s X Factor contestant Scott Brunton.

I was particularly impressed with Brunton’s performance and he proves himself to be a very fine singer and actor. At just 22-years-old his rendition of Orbison’s Dreams has to be one of the best I have heard for a very long time.

He has a likeable charm and warmth about, as well as an infectious energy.

I also enjoyed Daisy Wood Davis’s performance as the love struck and long suffering Laura.

Like Brunton some of her vocal performances were outstanding, particularly her duet with Brunton with the show’s title song Dreamboats And Petticoats.

Other great performances were the gutsy Emma Hatton as Donna, whose comedy timing was impeccable, and Esther Biddle as the racy Sue.

All in all it was an energetic show with a dedicated cast of young performers who showed young stars of today can still belt out those golden oldies.

Catch Dreamboats And Petticoats at the Savoy Theatre, Strand, until October 31.

The musical will run at The Churchill Theatre, Bromley, from November 9 to 14. Box office 0844 871 7627.
