London Zoo’s tigers have had all the attention recently after the birth of twin cubs, but last night it was the turn of the other big cats.
The zoo in Regent’s Park put on a press event that gave lucky journalists and guests the chance to enjoy an after-hours tour and talk in the superb Land of the Lions exhibit which opened earlier this year.
Several cabins within the Indian-themed Gir Lion Lodge, where you can sleep overnight next to the wild animals, were opened up to display some of the Zoological Society of London’s new Christmas products.
As usual with the ‘Christmas in July/August’ launches that many retailers do these days, it was surreal seeing gifts and decorations so early in the year, with Slade and Wham providing the summer evening’s soundtrack, but there was the added benefit with this one of getting to admire the majestic creatures at the same time.
We’ll feature some of the Christmas ideas later in the year but for now you can enjoy a few snaps of the beautiful Asiatic lionesses.
And you can look back at my review and photos from the night I stayed a whisker away from the pride.
