Star Wars fans and commuters found themselves immersed in the middle of the famous Death Star trench run, as they travelled around a galaxy not too far away.

The 49ft (15m) long 3D artwork, a re-creation of the scene in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, runs underneath Southwark Bridge in London, close to London Bridge station and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on Bankside.

The trench run featured in George Lucas’s 1977 film, when Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing and his fellow rebel pilots try to take down the Death Star while avoiding being shot down by the Imperial fleet and its TIE fighters.

The installation, created by 3D artists Joe and Max to celebrate the UK launch of the Rise Against The Empire play set, comes complete with sound effects of ships, laser fire and droids.

It will be available for fans to experience until 8pm on October 2.
