Greenwich’s first book festival will celebrate homegrown writers as well as big names.

Acclaimed authors such as Jon Ronson, Gruffalo scribe Axel Scheffler and Victoria Hislop are in town to host talks and events and will be joined by talented writers from closer to home, such as Forest Hill’s Jessie Burton - whose book The Miniaturist was one of the biggest hits of last year - and Greenwich University’s creative writing programme leader and novelist Alex Pheby.

Dr Pheby said: “We aim to bring the kind of writers who go to Hay to Greenwich, and in return represent the writers of Greenwich to the larger literary world.”

Greenwich Book Festival runs from May 22 to 24 at the Old Royal Naval College.
