And it’s all over! As the curtain falls on the 87th Academy Awards, here are the most talked about moments from the ceremony.

1. Neil Patrick Harris and Anna Kendrick’s opening routine.

The Oscars host and Pitch Perfect star Anna joined forces to perform a song which paid tribute to legends include Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe, as well as nods to some of cinema’s greatest moments, including Singin’ In The Rain and Star Wars. There was even a cameo from funnyman Jack Black, and Oprah Winfrey got her very own Lego Oscars statue.

2. The performance of Everything Is Awesome.

Canadian duo and twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin were joined by Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island bandmates Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, as well as Will Arnett, for a rather awesome rendition of the Oscar-nominated song, Everything Is Awesome.

3. Adam Levine drops a swear word.

Adam Levine, who performs huge concerts with his band, Maroon 5, and appears weekly on The Voice, had just three words when he walked off stage after his performance of Lost Stars, which featured in the film Begin Again. “Expletive!” was the first one, followed by “God!” and then “bllllggggrh.”

4. Nicole Kidman’s sing-along to Adam Levine’s performance.

Adam Levine’s biggest fan just might be Nicole Kidman. As the Maroon 5 frontman performed his Oscar-nominated song Lost Stars, the Queen Of The Desert and The Hours actress tapped her heel-clad foot and sang along. She knew every single word, and was joined by her husband, country crooner Keith Urban.

The Oscars host showed off his impressive physique and a lot more when he stripped down to his smalls during a Birdman spoof in the middle of the ceremony.

6. Patricia Arquette’s passionate speech.

Patricia Arquette received applause when she demanded “equal rights for women” during her acceptance speech. The Boyhood star, who scooped the prize for best supporting actress, called for “wage equality and equal rights for women in the United States of America”.

7. Pawel Pawlikowski ran over the allotted speech time.

Polish filmmaker Pawel, whose drama Ida won the best foreign language film, refused to let the orchestra play him off during his Oscars acceptance speech, and despite the music, he continued with his full speech.

8. John Legend’s political speech.

As John Legend and Common went on stage to pick up the prize for best song for their track Glory from the film Selma, following their live performance of the song, John reminded us that times haven’t got easier for African-American men. “There are more black men under correctional control today than were under slavery in 1850,” he said.

9. Lady Gaga takes on The Sound Of Music.

Lady Gaga rather unexpectedly unveiled her inner Julie Andrews with a medley of tunes from The Sound Of Music for a tribute to the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Even Julie remarked: “Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute. It really warmed my heart.”

10. Idina Menzel and John Travolta reunite on stage.

Idina Menzel showed she didn’t bear any grudges against John Travolta, who made a gaffe by mispronouncing her name as Adele Dazeem at the 2014 Oscars, when she jokingly took her revenge by calling him Glom Glazingo.

11. Benedict Cumberbatch enjoys a drop of booze in the audience.

Oscar-nominated actor Benedict, who was up for best actor, took a swig from a hip flask during the ceremony.
