Forget the intensely anticipated and equally badly reviewed 50 Shades of Grey, there's only one film to take your Valentine's Day date to this weekend.

Katherine Hepburn-Cary Grant-James Stewart three-hander The Philadelphia Story is being re-released in selected UK cinemas today, and it's the perfect film for anyone hoping to impress their other half on the most romantic day of the year.

A delightful screwball comedy, the film sees Hepburn play Tracy Lord, a member of a well-off Philadelphian family, who is to marry worthy-but-dull businessman George Kittredge (John Howard).

On the weekend of the big day, her smooth ex-husband Dexter Haven (Grant) - divorced one year earlier - shows up at her door to keep an eye on charming reporter Mike Connor (Stewart), a hack whose real passion (and talent) lies in the writing of poetic short stories, but has been assigned by the appropriately named scandal sheet 'Spy Magazine' to infiltrate the nuptials and get the best scoop possible.

News Shopper:

Kittredge, Haven and Connor all end up vying for Tracy's attention, but only one ends up winning her heart.

With a zinger of a screenplay and three brilliant central performances - Stewart won his only Oscar for his performance, while the film is largely credited with setting Hepburn on course to become one of the most popular stars in Hollywood hisory - The Philadelphia Story is a movie masterpiece that is not to be missed.

STAR RATING: FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS

The Philadelphia Story is out in selected UK cinemas today (February 13).
