Dancer and TV personality Louie Spence had been announced as the second star name to join the huge nationwide tour of the comedy classic The Producers, which opens in Bromley.

The choreographer will join the already-announced comedian and former One Show host Jason Manford, with further star names set to be announced before the tour kicks off at The Churchill Theatre from March 6 to 14.

Based on the film by Mel Brooks, The Producers won an Oscar in its movie incarnation and has swept the board for awards in the West End and on Broadway as a play, picking up 12 Tony Awards and three Oliviers.

Louie will play flamboyant assistant Carmen Ghia until May 2.

He said: “I cannot wait to get into rehearsal and in theatres across the country with The Producers, I’m hugely excited to be part of the company and to be working with such an incredible creative team.”

Jason Manford, who takes on the role of Leo Bloom, said: “I've worked with Louie a few times and I literally couldn't think of a performer more suited to play Carmen Ghia. He's a fantastic dancer and he knows how to get the laughs."
