Multi award-winning south east London curry house group Shampan celebrated its silver anniversary with a black tie gala event.

The group - which has restaurants in Welling, Chatterton Village and Westerham – marked 25 years in the borough with a lavish 1920s-themed evening at their flagship eatery, Shampan at the Spinning Wheel in Westerham.

In a marquee with ice sculptures and a champagne bar, 2012 X Factor finalist Kye Sones performed and other entertainment came from Bollywood dancers, magicians and Indian Dhol drummers.

The Westerham branch has twice won the British Curry Awards’ Newcomer of the Year in 2012 and 2013, while the Shampan 3 in Welling won British Curry Awards’ Best Indian Restaurant in London Suburbs in 2011.

All three of the restaurants have been nominated for this year’s British Curry Awards.

As well as running a business, the Shampan Group also runs the Shampan Foundation, a charity which helps young people and their families in Bangladesh.

Owner Sufian Miah said: “The next 25 years look to be just as exciting as the first.

“We have some exciting things planned for the next 5 years including the announcement of the location for Shampan 5.”
