War-time themed events are being planned around Dartford throughout October to coincide with a play about the period coming to town.
The Home Front Heroes series of 1940s-inspired events and workshops – ranging from poetry to arts and crafts, ration cookery workshops, tea dances, sing-a-longs, exhibitions and community discussions – has been set up by The Orchard Theatre in partnership with Dartford Science and Technology College, Dartford Museum, Dartford Arts and Culture Network and the town’s library.
It will culminate with the theatre hosting Lotty’s War from November 4 to 8.
The play - which stars Mark Letheren (Wire in the Blood), Olivia Hallinan (Lark Rise to Candleford) and Adam Gillen (Benidorm) – is a tale of passion, courage and sacrifice set in Second World War German-occupied Guernsey and is based on recently discovered diaries found in the channel island.
A full list of the events, which take place at various venues around town, can be found at orchardtheatre.co.uk. They cost £3 (unless otherwise stated) and anyone who books gets £5 off Lotty’s War.
