It’s nice to be able to sit and read a book in a park in the summer, but what about sitting and reading on a book in a park in the summer?
A series of cool, literary-inspired benches have popped up around the capital as part of the National Literacy Trust and Wild in Art’s Books About Town scheme.
Iconic books have been turned into benches by famous and local artists, with four trails around London – including one in Greenwich with a dozen seats.
At the end of the summer, the benches will be auctioned at the Southbank Centre to raise money to increase literacy levels.
Greenwich’s novel seating ideas include Samuel Pepys’ Diary near the Cutty Sark, A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in Greenwich High Road, The Canterbury Tales at the Royal Naval College and The Jungle Book in Greenwich Park.
Go to booksabouttown.org.uk to find out more about the trails and for activities.
