Summer has officially begun at the Bluewater with the launch of a six ton replica of the Atlantis, The Palm hotel in Dubai. If you stop, why not take a selfie?
Shoppers have been invited to enter a competition to win a holiday to the luxury hotel by taking a photo with the sculpture.
One lucky winner will get a four-night stay for four at the five star Atlantis hotel based in Palm Island, the revolutionary man-made construction in Dubai.
This weekend will an array of celebs, including the new face of The West End’s Bodyguard Alexandra Burke and cricketers Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen.
Walking past the gigantic sculpture, Danielle Harbert and Nadine Manning said the replica was “amazing”.
Both stopped to take a photo with the Atlantis-replica to enter the competition. Mrs Harbert and Mrs Manning said if they win, they would take their husband and children on the trip with them.
Mrs Harbert said: “I’ve never been to Dubai but I’ve heard it’s amazing.”
Lynda Markham was also in awe of the construction as she walked by. Mrs Markham, who has three children, said she would love to take her husband and family. She posed for a selfie and joked: “The eldest can pay for himself.”
Mark Anderson, is the artist behind the project, who said he had just three weeks to prepare the whole thing.
Mr Anderson has been sculpting sand for 28 years and built the structure with a team who were working day and night to complete the sand-Atlantis before the weekend.
Mr Anderson, who with his team were lugging in the six tons of sand until 6am on Thursday, said: “Oh my god, my neck and back are tribute to that.”
The lucky winner will enjoy a luxury four-night stay at the five-star resort in one of the opulent Deluxe Rooms, accommodating two adults and two children under 12, with scenic views over The Palm or Arabian Gulf.
The prize also includes four return flights courtesy of Virgin Holidays, a daily breakfast buffet and unlimited access to the Middle East and Europe’s number one Waterpark, Aquaventure and The Lost Chambers Aquarium.
Winners will also be treated to a sumptuous dinner worth £130, at the award-winning Seafire Steakhouse and Bar to complete the exhilarating experience.

The winner will be announced on 5th June at 9pm via Atlantis, The Palm’s social media channels.
