You have just arrived in Hither Green and have an hour to burn, what do you do and where do you go?

News Shopper is heading around south east London to find out the must-dos and must-sees to give a snapshot of each area.

The list is not comprehensive. Tell us what we’ve missed by tweeting @JimNewsShopper, leaving a comment on our facebook page or adding a comment below.

Feed the ducks

News Shopper:

Manor House Gardens is a beautiful piece of suburban parkland, with ball courts, a dog exercise area, grassy patches, plenty of benches and an ace pond with ducks and wildfowl. The perfect place to while away a day.

Gotta stay fry

News Shopper:

Though it is a bit posher than some neighbouring areas, you can still get a lot of greasey nosh in Hither Green. Our pick is the Station Cafe in Staplehurst Road. It is smart-looking and serves up a satisfying fry-up as well as a few curve balls like the Sicilian breakfast.

Choose hope

News Shopper:

The Cafe of Good Hope in Hither Green Lane was set up by friends and family of Jimmy Mizen, who was tragically killed a day after his 16th birthday in 2008. It raises money for the Jimmy Mizen Foundation and gives work to young people. Importantly, it’s a nice place to be too, serving fresh coffee, loose-leaf tea and snacks. The garden was even given a makeover for TV by celeb gardener Diarmuid Gavin.

Waiting at the Station

News Shopper:

Unusually for a station pub, The Station Hotel is nice. This boozer is vast and has a distinctly upmarket feel, though they’re passionate about their tipples and their grub.

You Don’t Bring Me Flowers

News Shopper:

You Don’t Bring Me Flowers in Staplehurst Road combines three things: unusual and beautiful flowers, great coffee and cakes, and a funny name. How can you lose?

Next week we’re in Chislehurst. Send your tips to jim.palmer@london.newsquest.co.uk
