TEENAGE pop-rock sensations The Vamps are going places. Literally. When I spoke to drummer Tristan Evans, the band was en route from Greenwich to Cardiff (and had the dodgy phone signal to prove it).

The night before, the four piece had played a vibrant set at the O2 Arena as support on The Wanted’s Word of Mouth tour.

Tristan, 19, said: “It was really fun. It was great to be back in London. We were super-lucky, it was an energetic show.”

All the time on the road and playing high-profile support slots is paying dividends to the band, whose first two singles both charted in the top three.

Having supported McFly, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and now The Wanted on tour, The Vamps have got to rub shoulders with some big names.

Tristan said: “I think personally Taylor Swift has been my favourite artist to play with. She just treated us so well. Her crew was amazing, we hung out with her in LA.

“She’s just so normal, and she’s great. And (lead guitarist) James is in love with her.”

On Sunday (April 6), The Vamps release their third single Last Night before unleashing their debut album Meet the Vamps on April 14.

Tristan said: “It is super-weird (to be releasing our album) after writing it for three or four years.

“The reaction has been good. People have pre-ordered it even though the previews aren’t up.

“We have been working on this album for three years and for people to like it is really nice. It is something we have all been dreaming of.”

Later this summer, the band is also heading out on a headline tour of their own.

Tristan said: “We’re really excited about the tour. It’s half arena, half theatre so going straight into that is crazy after just literally leaving school – Connor’s just turned 18 – so it’s all really crazy for us.”

The Vamps’ single Last Night is out Monday (April 6) and the album Meet the Vamps is out April 14. The band also plays British Summer Time at Hyde Park on July 6, on the bill with McBusted, Backstreet Boys and Scouting for Girls - go to bst-hydepark.com
