Sugababe Heidi Range on how to look good this January, Happy Days and Christmas shopping in Bromley

IF anyone knows the secrets to always looking your best, then you’d bet your money on it being a pop star.

Former Sugababe Heidi Range - who is set to star in Happy Days at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, from January 11 to 18 and The Orchard Theatre, Dartford from May 19 to 24 – felt pressure to look good for more than a decade in the pop starlight.

These days she said she is more comfortable with her body but has a routine to keeps herself in shape.

She said: “I go to the gym with a trainer three times a week and I watch what I eat.

“I’m short – I’m 5 ft 2 – so if I put on weight it shows really easily.”

She added: “You do feel pressure because people are taking pictures and commenting.

“I worried about it a lot more when I was younger. I used to read all the horrible magazines where they circle around your arse.

“But I don’t read them anymore, or if there’s anything written about me now I don’t read the comments.

“It used to get me down when I was younger, especially in a band where you are three completely different shapes. In the last line up, the two girls were tiny. They were like Chihuahua size, and I’m never going to be that size.

“As I’ve got older I’ve just accepted this is the shape I am and I just have to make the most of it.

A keen cook – she was disappointed to crash out in the first round of Celebrity Masterchef a few months ago – she had some tips for readers who may have indulged a little too much over Christmas.

She said: “I try to avoid carbs if I’m trying to lose weight.

“I love the juices as well.
“Me and my sister live together so we make vegetable juices and have them for breakfast. I did the Jason Vale juice detox for a week.

“I did enjoy it but now we just have it for breakfast.”

“We’ve got the book and the machine. I love it.

“The book’s good because it has got all different ones for different problems. It’s got cleansing ones or if you’ve got bad skin.”

Heidi, 30, had two number one albums, six number one singles, and what seems like even more line-up changes during her time with the Sugababes, but now she has turned to theatre in the stage adaptation of the much-loved TV show Happy Days.

The cast, which includes Emmerdale’s Ben Freeman as The Fonz and Bucks Fizz’s Cheryl Baker, has been rehearsing in Bromley.

Heidi said: “It’s going brilliantly, I love it. It’s just exciting coming in every day and you’re singing and dancing all day so it’s so much fun.

“Everyone is so nice. That’s the one thing I was a bit nervous about, going on tour with a group of people you’ve never even met.”

Heidi has enjoyed preparing the show in Bromley in the run up to Christmas too.

She said: “It’s quite nice having shops when you’ve got a break. I keep going shopping – it’s been quite helpful with Christmas shopping.”

Happy Days is at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, from January 11 to 18 and The Orchard Theatre, Dartford from May 19 to 24. Go to atgtickets.com/Bromley or orchardtheatre.co.uk
