A THEATRE is selling tickets for a quid for every show in its Spring season to encourage people to take a punt on a show they might not normally.

The Albany in Deptford will be selling ten £1 tickets for every show from Friday (December 6).
Tickets will go on sale at 9am at a bright pink stall outside the theatre at Deptford Market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings.

Any tickets that remain unsold will then go on the website from 2pm.

Highlights of The Albany’s season include a bold, humorous new play How to be Immortal, Mercury Award nominee Eliza Carthy, circus mash-up Bites: Remix shows for young people.

Ticket prices average about £6, so they won’t break the bank even if you’re not first in line.

The Albany’s chief executive Gavin Barlow said the idea of the £1 tickets came from chatting to people at The Albany’s market stall.

He said:” It was clear that people were keen to give new shows a try but were nervous about taking a risk. The £1 ticket scheme is a way to make it easier for them to do so.”

Gavin added: “Deptford Market is literally on our doorstep, and so it made sense to us to offer these tickets to local people through the market stall.

“It’s a playful way of engaging with new audiences in our local community, who form the cornerstone of everything we do.

“Every season the Albany offers a large and diverse programme of theatre, music, spoken word, festival, circus and cabaret, and so we hope that the cost of the tickets will encourage people will take a risk on something they wouldn’t normally experience.”
