FROM UK Garage pioneer to successful mainstream artist, Craig David is due to perform at the London Indigo2 in May as part of a world tour.

It has been a few years since he performed in the UK, but he is looking forward to the “intimate” gig in Greenwich.

He said: “The majority is going to be songs from the last four or five studio albums that I've done, but also some new songs that I've been working on over the last couple of years which may, or may not, make the new album.

“It will keep it fresh and allow people to hear something new, but I think a lot of people who buy tickets will want to hear 7 Days and Walking Away.”

Not a problem for the 31-year-old singer-songwriter who says Walking Away is his favourite track to perform.

He said: “It's a great one because it seems to have connected with so many people.

“They remember when they first heard that song – there's a nostalgia.”

Since bursting on to the music scene in 1999 featuring on the Artful Dodger track Re-Rewind, David has sold more than 13 million albums globally.

Proving his popularity has far from faded, BBC Radio 2 listeners recently voted Born To Do It one of the greatest albums of all time.

He said: “I'm just very grateful that I'm able to find -  wherever it comes from - that inspiration to be able to create music in the studio.

“I think it's the excitement of knowing that you're creating something that has never existed before and then you're about to put it out and unleash it into the wide world.

“Now I just love creating music and allowing it to do whatever it wants to do.”

Originally from Southampton, after finding fame David relocated to America.

He can still regularly be heard on British radio airwaves however as he presents a weekly show called TS5 on KISS FM.

Broadcast live as a party from his Miami penthouse, he describes the show as: “allowing people to hear what's going on in Miami and classic throwback RnB songs with me singing over the top of them”.

He reveals his top three dream party guests if given the choice of anyone dead or alive would be Michael Jackson, Madonna and Terence Trent D'Arby.

David has been working on a new album entitled Following My Intuition.

It will see him team up with Anthony Marshall, formerly one half of production duo Ignorants, who worked with him on his second album Slicker Than Your Average.

He said: “After 10 years of us doing our own thing, we got back in the studio together and I've been working really closely with him on this new record.

“It's very song driven in terms of we've tried to create the songs around a guitar with a piano first.

“We can go anywhere we want, but we wanted to make sure that the songs stand out on their own rather than an album full of good tracks, but with melodies on top.

“They're ok if they are with the track, but to try and do it acoustically, they've got to stand on their own.”

While fans will be pleased to hear that new music is on its way, David is non-committal when pushed about a release date.

He said: “Things change in the moment so it could be the end of the year, it could well be next year.

“I want to make sure that the music is the best of my ability at this point of my life.”
