IF YOU turn down a tiny road in deepest Hayes you will find a luxurious microcosm of all things beauty-related.

Therapist Angela Paul has just set up The Velvet Beauty Room and invited me to try out a facial ahead of her launch party next Wednesday evening.

The treatment room is tucked away in the Calso Health and Fitness Centre and is compact but what it lacks in space it makes up for in serenity.

Angela chose the ARK skincare range – fans of which include Tatler and Grazia - because of its emphasis on holistic, natural ingredients.

The products are made in the UK and contain natural ingredients with no artificial colours, fragrances or other irritants and they are not tested on animals.

The company was started in 1998 by a former Reiki practitioner Shula Starkey who wanted to use a range of skin products based on age rather than the traditional skin-type approach.

I fell into the age prepare category - teens to early 30s - and so Angela used age prepare products on me but she also asked me about my lifestyle to give me advice on how to improve my skin.

The Remove Pre cleanse seemed a particularly good idea because it can be difficult to remove everything i.e. make up, pollution, sweat and general London life with cleanser alone and this product helps you wipe the slate clean in a satisfying way.

Afterwards Angela cleansed and toned my face and then got rid of dead skin cells with Age Prepare Refining Exfoliator which she explained is more gentle than traditional scrubs which can pull or damage the skin.

Then she applied a purifying face mask to soak up any excess oil and finished by moisturising my skin finishing with the Anti-wrinkle Eye Cream, SkinResponse Serum and Plumping Lip Balm.

My face looked flushed healthy by the end– a bit like it does after a workout or a glass of wine. So if you want to fake a bit of vitality (and goodness knows I need to) I recommend a trip.

The Velvet Room, in Letchworth Drive, is having a launch evening on March 27 between 7pm and 9pm with free bubbly and a chance to find out about treatments.

Call 07549 490 840 to book a place.

There will be  a different special offer each month and in April the Ark Power Facial will cost just £25 instead of £40.

News Shopper readers can also get £5 off any other treatment.
