Bromley export David Bowie bags first number one album in 20 years
BROMLEY’S most famous rock star David Bowie has scored his first number one album in 20 years.
The record is also the fastest selling of the year so far.
The 66-year-old's new studio album The Next Day, his first new material in nearly a decade, is his first chart topper since 1993's Black Tie White Noise according to the Official Charts Company.
The Next Day sold 94,000 copies beating Biffy Clyro's Opposites which sold 71,600 copies in its opening week in January.
After being born in Brixton, Bowie's family moved to Bromley at the age of six where he attended Burnt Ash Primary School, in Rangefield Road, Downham, and his recorder playing reportedly showed “above-average musical ability”.
Veteran music star Bowie performed in many of Bromley borough's nightspots in his early years but has not performed live since 2006 and has rarely been seen in public since then.
