A chance to jive with star trumpeter at Rivoli Ballroom in Brockley

THERE is a chance to throw some retro shapes on the dance floor in Brockley this weekend with a jazz maestro and a live jive band.
Canadian trumpeter Jay Phelps is playing at the Rivoli Ballroom in Brockley Road, Crofton Park, on Saturday (March 16) to get Lewisham residents jitterbugging at the historic venue.
He first distinguished himself as the youngest band-leader in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival’s history and has gone on to accompany a host of musicians including Amy Winehouse and Jamie Callum.
Jay will feature as part of the venue’s monthly Jive Party which happens on the third Saturday of each month, an event for dance beginners and experts alike.
The Rivoli started life in July 1913 as the Crofton Park Picture Palace and has hosted fashion shoots featuring Brad Pitt and Kate Moss.
