Tana Bennett has really put her hair salon on the hairdressing map.

The salon Tana-B has been nominated as one of the best salons in the south of England in The English Hair & Beauty Awards 2012, and Tana herself has been nominated as one of the best stylists in the country.

The results will be announced at a glittering ceremony in Manchester in May when Tana and her team of 10 staff will find out if they have managed to beat off stiff competition from some of the major salon chains in the country to win an award.

Those who have been shortlisted have been nominated by their customers. I have always been really passionate about hair,” says Tana who has spent 27 years in the business, training at a salon in Kent and then in London before managing a salon in Purley for 15 years.

“I spent a couple of years at home looking after my kids, but I really missed the buzz of having a salon,” she says.

So four years ago, Tana opened her salon in Sanderstead.

“When I started, there was me and one part-time member of staff.

“Now I have 10 staff and I have trained them all myself. I am pleased to say that even though there is a recession, I have continued to spend a lot of money on training and investing in my staff.

“We believe in ‘customer delight’ rather than ‘customer service’ and like to stay ahead of the game.

“We are always thinking of new ideas and aim to be innovative. I set the highest standards and maintain them consistently, which is why I think I have been nominated for these awards.

“I just love cutting, and I love making women feel good. A good haircut and colour is guaranteed to give you a lift.”
