A hairdressing salon group are offering to give kids a break with the launch of a student card with a difference across all branches in south east London, Kent and Essex.

GWI managing director Jed Hamill came up with the idea after noticing a gap in the market for 12 to 18-year-olds.

He said: "At the age of 12 when still in full time education most salons will charge full adult price for appointments – obviously at this age with no income this can be difficult for them to afford."

With this in mind, he created GWI Student, entitling students in full time education to 25% off cut and highlight appointments.

There will also be the opportunity for card holders to win prizes and collect loyalty points which can be traded in for a variety of services at the salon.

To keep the kids in the loop, from catwalk styles to celebrity coiffeurs, GWI Student members will receive text and email updates with what’s hot and what’s not.

Excited by the prospect of the new venture, Jed said: "We wanted to cater for all of the students in the area, not just those at university, so GWI Student seemed like a great way to do that."

"So often teens are overcharged for their appointments in salons because they don’t fall into the age bracket of what most businesses consider to be a student. Our aim is to abolish this at GWI and make coming to the salon a fun experience for them."
