What if working out could be as fun as going out? New classes are aiming to use the fun of nightclubs to help you get fit.

Beat It in Beckenham and Move2thebeat’s Clubbercise classes across Bexley both use club anthems and dance moves to burn calories.

Beat It, a women-only class which meets at Time Bar from 7.30pm on Tuesdays, is run by professional dancers Evie Montila and Zoe Nichols, who have 14 years’ experience working for the likes of MTV, Nike and Formula One.

Their sessions urge people to ditch the gym and get to a nightclub – even on a school night – for a sixty minute workout that they say will burn at least 1,200 calories.

Evie said: “The reason it feels so good is because there are no men and it’s dark - it’s about feeling feeling confident, feeling sexy and feeling good exercising.”

“Having that many women in a room is quite healing in itself. Everyone can relate to each other.

“You get to see moves like you see on MTV, like in Beyonce’s Single Ladies. It’s not like going to the gym, you come out having learn something you can use when you go out.”

The music is created by DJs from current hits and club classics and you’re even encouraged to bring your high heels for a final 15 minute leg-toning session.

Evie said the classes are friendly and sociable with many women sticking around for a healthy smoothie (or a cheeky glass of wine) and a chat afterwards.

MORE HEALTH AND FITNESS:

She said: “It feels like you have been on a night out.”

Evie and Zoe have also expanded Beat It to their old school, Coopers in Chislehurst, where the classes nurture girls through movement, music and girl talk.

For those with a passion for something more fluorescent, Clubbercise makes exercise fun with dancing in the dark with glow sticks and disco lights.

Move2thebeat runs classes on a Monday night at St Thomas Moore Church Hall in Bexleyheath and St Andrews in Bostall Heath and Thursdays at St Marys the Virgin in Welling.

Kieran McCartney, who runs the classes, said: “It’s a fun and easy workout which allows participants to fully immerse themselves into the club-like environment.

“The routines are easy to follow  - the added bonus and fun factor of the glow sticks really makes the class like a 'rave'.

“In short, Clubbercise is allowing people to rave themselves fit!”
