Halloween 2008

HALLOWEEN should be a time of year when children and adults can enjoy themselves.

This year the message from the Safer Bromley Partnership is to have a good time but trick or treaters on Halloween night should respect people’s wishes when it comes to knocking on their doors.

To help get this message across to everyone in the borough, the Safer Bromley Partnership has teamed up with News Shopper to promote a sensible and thoughtful approach to the festivities on October 31.

The message is clear.

Bromley Council head of community safety Colin Newman: “We don’t want people to stop having fun but we are committed to promoting a safe and carefree night for people, whether they are celebrating or not.

“That’s why we’re promoting a responsible approach and no unaccompanied trick or treats.”

Cut out the handy full page poster and display it in your window for October 31.

Advice to avoid dealing with unwelcome callers

1 Make sure doors and windows are locked.

2 Timer switches can be fitted to operate radios and lights when you are out.

3 Close curtains or blinds to prevent potential thieves seeing into your home.

4 Visible burglar alarms make burglars think twice.

5 Never leave a spare key in a convenient hiding place such as under the doormat or in a flowerpot.

6 Marked property can deter burglars

7 Consider joining or starting a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
