London Kebab House, New Cross

London Kebab House. London Kebab House.

It was a Sunday night in June when I headed to New Cross with my mate for a gig at the New Cross Inn.

We needed some food to line our stomachs for the rest of the evening and stumbled across the London Kebab House.

It looked like every other takeaway in New Cross Road but having done a lot of walking around London, the two empty stools inside the door lured us in.

I could see a group of takeaway workers stood in a corridor at the back of the restaurant, joking with each other and looking at their mobiles.

It was probably about 45 seconds by the time someone came to take our order.

Despite the slow start to proceedings, things got better as our two portions of chicken nuggets and chips began to fry.

At £3.50 a meal - each of which comprised a generous eight chicken nuggets - it felt like a good deal.

Cans of drink came in at just 60p each too.

For the price and considering this was just another inner-London kebab shop, the food was excellent.

The chips were of a decent quality and tomato ketchup was free of charge, meaning there was nothing for me to complain about.

I couldn’t say there was anything about the London Kebab House that would make me remember it and rush back.

But at the same time, it won’t stand out for the wrong reasons either.

How the London Kebab House rated:

FOOD *** - greasy, but tasty and good value.

SERVICE ** - hardly rushed to take my order as I walked in.

INTERIOR/DECOR *** - clean with plenty of available space.

Address: London Kebab House, 492 New Cross Road, London, SE14 6TJ.
