PUB REVIEW: Tailor’s Chalk, High Street, Sidcup

Drink ****, Décor ***, Price *****, Atmosphere ****, Staff ***

FIRST things first – to the bloke who chatted with me in the pub while waiting for his ‘lady friend’: I am not who I said I was and know next to nothing about stamp duty and closings.

But I do think you should try and rekindle things with your ex-wife over the Christmas period or when you take her on holiday.

Now, back to business.

Christmas time is full of traditions including having a tree, a turkey, two turtle doves and some tinsel.

Festive ales are just as important for me as the above (especially more important than the turtle doves) so took a trip to the Tailor’s Chalk in Sidcup to see what it had to offer.

A selection from 19 different Christmas beers is on sale at each Wetherspoons at the moment and during my visit there were two – with three seemingly coming soon.

First up was Turkey’s Delight by Smiles (£1.89) but I am unsure whether it would truly be a delight to turkeys or any other fowl.

It did not have any distinct flavours or really taste of anything at all and sadly I feel I have had lagers with more taste to them.

The Bah Humbug (£1.89) was a much better drop.

Reddish brown in colour, it was rich and fruity with a deep well-rounded flavour making it a good wintry choice but would also be good for other times of year.

The food was quite good although I am sure the amount of mashed potato I received with the sausages and peas for my bangers and mash (£4.99) used to be larger.

This is the last Pubspy of 2009 so have a very happy Christmas, a fantastic new year and add me as a friend on Facebook – at the time of writing I only have 59 and having a few more would be a great present.
