Not many of us can afford a trip to the States every time we fancy a juicy, perfectly cooked hamburger.

But don’t worry – the stars and stripes have come to us in the form of the most succulent, tasty and simply delicious burgers in town.

Luckily for us carnivores, Byron opened a new branch in Greenwich this week so my meat-loving fiancé and I swung by to taste these legendary meals.

Perfectly situated right near the pier, this colourful and modern eatery has an extremely fresh look to it and, as we were about to discover, an even fresher taste.

We ordered the Proper Olives (£2.75) while we painstakingly pondered the mouth-watering list of burgers.

I was shocked when they arrived – we’d never seen such bright green olives.

Our lovely waitress explained they are plucked from the tree and put straight in a dish hence the wonderful colour.

Throwing caution to the wind and falling off my diet wagon I picked the cheese burger with Emmenthal (£7.75) with a side of even cheesier macaroni cheese (£3.25).

My companion chose the classic Byron with dry cure bacon, mature cheddar and Byron sauce (£9.25) with homemade skin-on chips (£3.25).

Burger me – everything was gorgeous.

The beef, which is sourced from small Scottish farms and freshly ground each day, was cooked in the restaurant’s trademark medium style and perfectly pink in the middle.

The mac and cheese was by far the best I’ve ever tasted and to my fiancé’s dismay I also managed to sneak a few of his beautiful, crispy-on-the-outside-fluffy-on-the-inside chippies.

Despite being rather stuffed, we couldn’t resist dessert and shared an Oreo and Brownie Sundae with whipped cream (£4.75) – oh lord.

It was the sweetest way to end our premier trip to this new burger heaven.

If it’s good, honest, simple and fresh hamburgers you’re after Byron is without a doubt the place to come – lucky it’s right on our doorstep now.
