Bakers from across south east London will battle to be crowned the winner of the first-ever Great Charlton Cake-Off this weekend.
The competition is part of the Great Get Together in Charlton Park on Saturday (June 17), which commemorates the MP Jo Cox who was murdered a year ago.
The event will include free music, arts and children’s activities while families are invited to come along with picnics.
The Cake-Off is free to attend – with food available to buy, including the competing cakes – and takes place from 2pm at Cemetery Lane in Charlton Park.
The main category is to find the best birthday cake and marks six years of the charity Big Red Bus Club. It is expected there will be a special guest judge.
There are four other categories for grown ups – Victoria sandwich, filled chocolate cake, lemon drizzle cake and four brownies – that will be judged by the Greenwich brand of the Clandestine Cake Club.
Children aged seven to 11 and under seven categories can compete with four decorated small cakes and four decorated biscuits respectively.
