Britain’s favourite lunchtime dish is coming home to the county that gave it its name, with hit restaurant the Earl of Sandwich opening at Bluewater.
A partnership between John Montagu, the 11th Earl of Sandwich, and Planet Hollywood entrepreneur Robert Earl, the eatery will open on Wednesday, December 23.
It was the fourth earl who invented the sandwich in 1762 as a way of eating his dinner without having to stop playing cards or risk getting them dirty.
The first Earl of Sandwich restaurant opened at Disney in Florida in 2004 and has spread across the States and to Disneyland Paris, with its signature The World’s Greatest Hot Sandwich.
It will sell eight sandwiches as well as healthier options such as soups and salads, breakfast, treats and desserts, pasta and pizza and drinks including smoothies, soft and hot drinks.
