Petts Wood has become the place to have a pint, as three of its pubs celebrate new achievements in the brewing world.

Micropub One Inn the Wood has beaten off competition from around 7,000 other competitors to be crowned best pub in Greater London by the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra).

As one of only 16 pubs honoured in the nationwide list, Barry Bridge, who runs the pub with wife Sarah, said they are "chuffed to bits" with the achievement.

He told News Shopper: "It's a huge honour to be honest and it's big news for Petts Wood."

Mr Bridge said the key to their success is the "old fashioned feel" of the place.

He added: "The whole concept is to get people talking. People come in and they talk, which naturally creates a good atmosphere.

"It's just a really nice place to be."

One Inn the Wood will now go up against the other regional winners, in a bid to take the prestigious Pub of the Year title.

The Daylight Inn has also been celebrating, after being granted listed status by Historic England.

Located in Station Square the Daylight is one of 20 pubs across the UK to be listed, after a project to honour the best inter-war pubs.

Named after Petts Wood resident William Willett, who campaigned for daylight saving, the pub has maintained its mock Tudor style features inside and out.

Kitchen manager Michael Perrin, known as Mick, said the pub was built in 1935 and partially extended in 1996.

He told News Shopper: "The reaction has been pretty good from our locals and regulars.

"They know the outside of the building can't be touched."

Throughout its lifetime the Daylight has been graced with its fair share of celebrities - including legendary rock band the Rolling Stones.

Over on Queensway the Sovereign of the Seas has made its way into Camra's 2016 Best Beer Guide, which will be published tomorrow (CORR).

Further afield in Penge, The Moon and Stars has also been included in the coveted list.

Manager Gregory Wilkins said: "I am delighted that the pub has been recognised for the quality of its real ales by Camra members."
