A Catford pub with a chequered recent history has been transformed with a new identity.

The old Catford Ram in Winslade Way has a new landlord and a new name, The Black Cat.

Newly installed to run the pub, 51-year-old David Llewellyn was given the task ‘to try to re-position the pub as a new and exciting place to eat and drink in Catford.’

The pub had its licence suspended in March following controversy which included a drugs raid at the end of February and then briefly became home to squatters.

A licensing review resulted in additional conditions on its licence and Young’s Brewery offered experienced hand David, who has more than 20 year industry experience and did his brewery training with Whitbread in Catford, the chance to turn the place around.

Now named The Black Cat, it opened on May 13 following refurbishment to its toilets, redecoration inside and out and new signage.

David said: “Our emphasis is on high quality of products and excellent standards of service, always with a smile.”

On Saturday, The Black Cat launched its new menu with daily homemade specials, a Sunday roast and the ability to pre-order lunch and take away food by e-mailing delicat.se6@gmail.com. In future, David hopes to host charity events and live music too.
