Gravesend could soon have a claw-some cat café, if two local women can raise enough money.

Nora Camann, 34, and Jennifer Kristiansen, 25, now have less than a month to raise £35,000 for their new business BaristaCats.

They have spotted the puuurfect building on the High Street, where Ms Kristiansen lives, but would need to fit a new kitchen and completely renovate the space.

The ladies were inspired by London cat café Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium, and a growing trend for cat cafés in Japan and North America.

Mrs Camann, who lives on Manor Road, said: “I think it would be good for Gravesend.

“For people who cannot have cats it’s good cat therapy.

“Also it’s good for bringing in tourists, because it’s interesting.”

Mrs Camann described the café as an arty place, where they want to have poetry nights and display the work of local artists.

“We want to have five cats to start with, because we are not really sure the space will take more than that. And one rabbit,” she added.

“It’s going to be a normal cat café where there are cats people can pet.”

The duo will serve hot drinks and cake, and are happy for people to bring their own lunches whilst kitchen developments are underway.

Mrs Camann added: “We also want to help people who are into adopting cats, although we won’t adopt out our cats.

“We are very concerned with animal welfare. Jen’s been volunteering with Cats Protection for a while.”

The duo's Kickstarter page launched yesterday (March 1) - they aim to make £1,200 a day.
