If you’re on a tight budget this year or just feeling frugal, you might like to know it’s possible to make Christmas dinner for just £2.66 per person.

That may seem like an impossible task but Good Housekeeping magazine has assembled a thrifty basket of shopping to show just how it can be done.

By going around various supermarkets, the whole meal for eight can cost as little as £21.31.

As an added bonus, the cheapest Christmas basket is down three per cent on last year thanks to the battle between the discounters and the traditional big names.

Follow the shopping list below to see how you can create the most penny-wise feast on Christmas Day.

And if you don’t have time to shop around all 10 leading supermarkets, you might like to know Iceland is the cheapest individual retailer, with dinner for eight people costing £27.84, including fresh vegetables.

Lidl comes second at £28.13, followed by Morrisons (£29.12) and Aldi (£32.06).
