Orpington College has officially opened its new training kitchens with help from celebrity chefs Chris and James Tanner.

The duo visited the new facilities on Thursday (Oct 9) and had an early view of the resident restaurant BR6, which is set to serve its first dish in January 2015.

The Hospitality Food and Enterprise College is in its first year, having begun in September teaching 14-19 year-olds specific skills for the food and drink industry while studying for core GCSEs.

The Tanner brothers, originally from Devon but who this year set up a Kentish restaurant, met students at the unveiling and tasted some of their food.

Both chefs, who will act as patrons of BR6, said they were "impressed" at the new kitchens and the food put out by Bromley’s youngsters.

College principal Sam Parrett said she was delighted the Tanners agreed to support the career college.
She said: ": "We are so pleased to have the backing of two amazing chefs.

"Our students will gain huge benefits from Chris and James's input and patronage of our restaurant and we are really grateful to them for giving their time and backing."

Bromley College has London’s first hospitality, food and enterprise career college.
