Thousands of music lovers descended on Blackheath at the weekend for the inaugural OnBlackheath festival.

Veteran band Massive Attack led the way on Saturday after being supported by Aloe Blacc and Grace Jones while Athlete, Imelda May and Frank Turner closed off the weekend on Sunday night.

Food lovers were treated to demonstrations from professional chefs in the site’s food stage meaning punters could learn how to fillet and fry a sea bream with Adam Simmonds at 4.30pm before moshing in the dance tent at 5pm with Canadian outfit Badbadnotgood.

Michael Thomas, aged 30, of Camden Hill Road, Crystal Palace, said it was an "amazing weekend".

He added: "Everyone was so happy and there was such a good friendly vibe which you don't get at all music events.

"Aloe Blacc was awesome and Massive Attack were incredible - as you would expect.

"But it was also great to watch chefs like Adam Simmonds teaching us how to cook clams and squid during the quieter moments of the day.

News Shopper:

"I seriously hope they hold this festival every year as it was one of the highlights of my summer."

Organisers confirmed more than 25,000 people attended over the weekend.

The Blackheath Society is surveying its 900 members on how the festival went.

The survey runs for a week at blackheath.org or visit the society Facebook page and @Blackheathsoc Twitter account.
