Winston Churchill – Westerham
Just a stone's throw from Biggin Hill stands the home of arguably Great Britain's most recognisable Prime Minister.
Sir Winston Churchill bought Chartwell House in 1924 and it remained his home until his death in 1965. It is now owned by The National Trust.
Churchill was born in 1874 at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire.
He was asked by George VI to form a Government in 1940. Churchill told the war cabinet: "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat" and on May 7, 1945, Germany surrendered to the Allies.
Churchill resigned from Government in 1955 but remained an MP until 1964. He died the following year, aged 90.
