The fifth of seven sons, the comedy legend was born Leslie Townes Hope in Eltham on May 29, 1903.
Bob - as the whole world knew him - had a career that stretched across seven decades on TV, radio and in movies.
With more than 2,000 awards and citations for humanitarian and professional efforts - including five Oscars, 44 honorary doctorates and seven civilian medals - Hope holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most honoured entertainer in the world.
Hope died of pneumonia on July 27, 2003, at his California home.
