Festival bookings, radio airtime and the launch of a debut album have seen Bromley band Professor Penguin make a splash in the music world.

Planes is the debut album from the exciting band, which was launched in Oxford Street on April 9.

The group has changed significantly since lead singer/songwriter Johnny Abraham was at Langley Park School for Boys.

What began as a solo project now boasts 10 members after the talented musician drafted in his friends to form the band.

He said: “There are a lot of us now and that has given the live show a really dynamic feel.

“It’s a lot more fun to be playing with so many great people instead of on my own.”

Johnny says the album came more easily than expected.

He added: “The writing process for Planes was pretty simple as the band only formed after I'd written the record.

“Once Jono (synths) and I had finished a song I could just bring it to the band and we'd set about learning it.

“Everyone was so committed to making the record sound as good as it could do live, it was an amazing thing to hear Planes coming together.”

Professor Penguin’s debut single Planes has had airtime on BBC 6 Music and received praise from Brian Eno who described it as “a beautiful piece”.

Johnny continued: “I just hope that we can continue to play together as a band and keep having fun, being such a big group there's a lot going on and everyone's always very busy with their own projects, as well as trying to earn a living.

"We'll just carry on and hopefully make some good opportunities for ourselves.

“We're really looking forward to playing some festivals this summer and there are a few booked in so far which is pretty exciting.

“Fingers crossed the record can attract a fair following and then we'll have to wait and see what happens next.”
